This is very interesting to note that the board apparently is hand carved on a stony surface. I used to play this chess and was never very good, but there are highly skillful masters of this in VietNam and they play in the streets to pass time. By the way, this is not a valid chess position so may be Jerome just positioned the pieces to take this photo? No?

This was in a house I visited a while ago, the visitors must have touched the pieces :)
