Well the meat is definitely cooked like the traditional kebab style, on this vertical skewer. So it's actually a street fusion between Vietnam and Turkey ;)
They are everywhere in Hanoi these days. As I understand it, the carts were introduced (donated?) by the Germans (doner kebabs are a legacy of the Turkish immigrant population in Germany). The kebab sandwiches in VN have of course been Vietnamized with marinated shredded carrot etc. I love them!

I've seen similar here in Saigon, it's very popular.
